Rensselaer, Indiana • Rodeo Austin Barrows
What sorted the closest call for you?
I thought there were a couple of dark cross classes where the top 3 or 4 barrows were very competitive. Squareness of build, stoutness & shape, while being balanced were the deciding factors.
What breed/class surprised you the most?
While the dark crosses had the most classes, I thought they were also the deepest breed. The eventual Grand & Res Grand overall came out of the last two classes of the show.
What was your first impression of the eventual Grand Champion?
Stud! A pig that presented a great first impression as he came through the initial sift pen and was even more impressive in the big ring!
If you could pick a walk-out song, what would it be?
Austin played a lot of good music during the show while sifting and judging the classes!
Caffeine pick-me-up of choice:
Sweet tea or Mt. Dew
Best meal you ate:
Pappadeaux with the whole family!

Baylor Hebert
Baylor Hebert shared with us her Champion backdrop memories from the Louisiana State Livestock Show, along with the story behind a barrow that proved just how special he was.
Tell us a little bit about your champion:
I quickly named him “Hairy” when he made his way into our barn from Brockman Farms. My dad told me that he was special from the beginning, which encouraged me to work even harder. He was a special one for sure, and I worked harder with him than any other pig I have shown. It definitely paid off in the end, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have owned and shown him.
Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
I want to thank my brother Brock, my family, and everyone who helped along the way. But most of all, I want to thank my dad — none of this would be possible without him. He pushes me harder every day, and that has brought me a long way in and out of the show ring. This year was challenging, and we fed fewer pigs than we normally do. It’s not a big crew, but we definitely have a strong one.
What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
Writing an essay in 20 minutes — that was a little difficult to do.
What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
He was not feeling well when we moved into the barn a few days before the show. He went off feed and wasn’t drinking much water either. I was concerned he wouldn’t be at his best on show day, but he came through for me in an unforgettable way.
What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
Dr. Pepper and a Snickers.
Ayce Theriot
Ayce Theriot shared with us his thoughts about showing his champion at the Louisiana State Livestock Show.
Tell us a little bit about your champion:
My gilt is a pig we raised, and from the time she was a baby she was my favorite pig.
Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
My dad.
What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
Social studies.
What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
The biggest challenge was going up against tough competition in the class, division, and drive.
What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
Wild Berry Skittles Gummies.
