Landry Mabry’s Houston Champion Barrow was the kind every exhibitor hopes to find — good-minded, easy feeding, and always ready to go — making “Eddie” a memorable one from start to finish.

Tell us a little bit about your champion:
“Eddie” was a special animal. He was a blue-masked crossbred barrow raised by Lacy Showpigs of Seminole, Texas. His sire was Angry Orchard at Upperhand, and his mother was a littermate to our San Antonio champion in 2025. Eddie was just a dream of a showpig — easy to feed, quick to get whip broke, never got sick, and had a very cool personality. He could walk for miles and never get tired.

Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
This is going to be long, but thank-you’s should be. I have an incredible circle of people who cheered me on and helped with this win. Starting off — my parents. Showing pigs is expensive and time-consuming, but we all love it. I’m grateful for the opportunity they’ve given us to pursue this. My little brother Kenton — we do this together, and while it gets loud and crazy in the barn, we love it. The Lacy family, who bred this pig and so many other awesome pigs I’ve shown. Roger is probably more competitive than I am, and I’m grateful they trusted us with this barrow. The Lackey family and the entire Lackey crew have become some of my best friends. The amount of love and effort they put into every show is incredible. I’ll never forget being in the holding pen and looking into the stands and seeing everyone there. I think I even saw Jason Lackey smiling.

What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
Honors Geometry, for sure. My math teacher is awesome, but she is old school and still makes all her worksheets by hand. That made it hard to keep up while I was gone, especially since I didn’t anticipate being gone through all of wave two. It was tough getting it all learned and turned in when I got back, but I did it.

What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
When we arrived at Houston, my barrow stopped… using the bathroom. He was eating and drinking fine, just not “going,” which left him weighing too heavy the day before he showed. We tried just about everything to help him get back on track — wash rack trips, laps around the barn, you name it. Finally, he “did it,” and on show day it was fun having some weight to put back into him. My dad and Jason had him looking his absolute best.

What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
Granola bars… unless Cameron Knight eats them all. Then I go with Gushers. Hide your snack boxes, people — he’s out there.
