National Show Exhibitor Spotlight
Avery Layton
We caught up with Avery Layton to talk about her special gilt, Brittney, and the win at Arizona National.
Tell us a little bit about your champion:
Brittney was a very special gilt. What made her even more meaningful is that she was farrowed from the gilt that started my show career.
Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
Noa Taipin, my brother Jack Goodwin, and my mom and dad, Derek and Jill Layton, all played a big part in helping me achieve this win.
What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
The Arizona National was during our winter break, so for once I didn’t have to play catch-up on schoolwork.
What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
I really didn’t have a challenge with Brittney, as she was pretty easy and a pleasure in the show ring.
What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
Extra cheddar Goldfish.
Morgan Drawdy
We caught up with Morgan Drawdy to talk about the special gilt, Pocahontas, and the journey behind the season.
Tell us a little bit about your champion:
We were searching for that special gilt or barrow to put in our barn that we could have some fun with this season, and Travis Platt sent us just that. We immediately knew her name would be Pocahontas, keeping with our Disney theme — but even more so because she reminded us of a legend. From the very beginning, we knew she was something special.
Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
I want to thank Travis Platt for trusting us and sending this special gilt to our barn. George Cooper was instrumental in keeping her ready for all the shows we brought her out to. I also can’t thank my siblings and family enough for picking up my slack on the days when I’m away at school. I’m truly grateful to be able to continue doing what I love — I couldn’t do it without all of them.
What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
Being in college while traveling back and forth between school, home, and shows has been the most challenging part. Late-night cram sessions have become the norm, but they allow me to continue the sport I love. So I’ll keep digging in.
What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
We really struggled getting Pocahontas filled out where she needed to be, but staying consistent and trusting the process paid off in the end.
What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
I didn’t really have a favorite snack, but my little brother Maddox definitely did. He made sure we all knew that when we ran out of salt and vinegar chips, we had a HUGE problem. 😆
