THE RECAP – Dillon Sheiss – Arizona National Purebred Gilt Judge
We caught up with Mr. Dillon Sheiss after he judged the Purebred Gilt Show at the 2024 Arizona National. Check out his thoughts below…

What breed stood out as the toughest and deepest?
The spots and berks were both great breeds with top end and depth of quality!

At what point did you know that your champion was your champion?
When the Hamp hit the ring I thought her pieces were as good as I had seen in that breed.

What’s one thing you wish this generation of showmen needs to be more aware of?
When we’re using our off show hand, is it really making the pig we’re driving look better or is it throwing off their look?

When judging do you ever wonder what the pedigrees are on some of the animals or think I bet that one is a ……. ?
Yes. Always on the red pigs. Sometimes I have to be careful not to call one out on mic that has easy to notice features from a certain sire!

Any funny encounters throughout the day?
Bret, Justin and I had a great time sharing stories while waiting on classes

What has been the biggest change in the ring since you were an exhibitor?
Footwear and the paisley fad is beginning to fade!
