Tell us a little about your champion:
She wasn’t the easiest pig to break, but even as she was just doing her own thing in the yard my dad said she looked like she had the chance to do something big this summer.
Extra washing and walking as well as setting things up to make it easier for whoever is taking care of the pigs I leave at home.
Definitely excited and a little surprised. She was only the third overall Chester gilt so it was going to be tough to get into the top 5, but the two that beat mine went grand and reserve so I got back in the ring pretty fast.
Do you prefer summer or winter shows? Why?
Summer shows. It’s easier for me to get pigs ready for them and I can do more outside the barn while I’m actually at the shows.
Who’s been your biggest influence?
I’ve had a lot of big influences, but I’d have to say my dad is the biggest.
Do you and your family raise pigs?
We partner with Hines Hog Farm on raising some pigs. A lot of my show gilts from the last couple years are there and I like having something to do with them as they become sows and have their own litters
What’s your favorite thing to do in the barn?
I’d say just watching my pigs as they grow and change.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer?
Definitely going to shows. I get to hang out with friends from all over the country and try to hang some banners.
