We caught up with Makenna Oliver to talk about a successful run with Fancy and the consistency it took to finish strong.

Tell us a little bit about your champion:
Fancy came to us from Decker Showpigs. She was a fun one to haul, winning some jackpots this winter and being named Grand Champion Gilt at our county show.

Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
First off, I wouldn’t be able to accomplish any of this without Dustin Ham and the team at Ham Livestock, along with breeders like Chad at Decker Showpigs for making these top-notch animals. And of course, my parents for making sure I am able to show pigs and pushing me to be my best.

What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
Being a senior, I only have one hard class, so writing an essay in English was pretty tough.

What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
Toward the end of the show season, her feet started getting a little tender, so we had to make sure to keep her on soft ground.

What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
Goldfish!
