We caught up with Mr. Jim Mccoy before he steps “Inside the Ring” to sort the Barrow Show at the 2023 State Fair of Texas. Learn more about Jim below!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I’ve been involved in the swine world and Showpig business for decades. Pig people are my kind of people and thoroughly enjoy being around them and visiting with them on a business and personal level. It’s been a great life.

Who got you involved in the livestock industry and how?
My dad had commercial sows and I wasn’t involved much with that when I was little but a friend who was in 4-H, was one of the people that made me get interested in showing pigs

Favorite State Fair Memory:
The number of years I have been involved in this there are too many very special moments to single one out. Every single time we had good family moments, success  that culminated all of the hard work, the failures or disappointments with the same amount of work that was put forward, every single one of them made for the full life experience that I think everyone needs to be a part of.

First State Fair ever judged:
West Virginia State Fair

Favorite Fair Food:
The Dauby Dog,(sp.) it is a hot dog with string cheese in the middle wrapped in bacon deep-fried. It’s really healthy for you too!!

Favorite Carnival Game:
Probably the BB gun target type stuff. Not much of a carnival game person. Plenty of ways to waste money. I would probably choose to do it somewhere else.

Favorite Carnival Ride:
Just like the carnival games, not much of a carnival ride person. There’s plenty of ways to figure out how to get sick, probably could find a more fun way to do it than a carnival ride ,loved space Mountain at Walt Disney World but obviously can’t find those at the county or state fair level.
