We caught up with Mr. Jarrett Davis before he steps “Inside the Ring” to sort the Berk and Crossbred Barrows at the 2024 NJSA Winter National. Learn more about Jarrett below!

Tell us a little about yourself and your background in the ag industry?
My family lives in Shawnee, OK- where we operate JD Showpigs. My wife and daughters are not only my best friends and cheerleaders- but play vital roles in our show pig operation. Alli holds down the fort while I chase my dreams up and down the road- and everyone loves the girls even if they don’t like me- so they get to be the faces of our business- it all works out. I grew up showing pigs and taught ag for 6 years coming out of college. Even though I miss my teaching roll at times- full time pig ranching really suits me and my personality type.

What are you looking forward to most about judging this show?
The weather

On a more serious note, I genuinely love sorting livestock shows- it combines getting to work with elite level livestock, and the best kids in the world. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day. I am really looking forward to judging on this stage- this will be my first NSR/NJSA event to sort at.

Any expectations going into it?
I love judging in the SE part of the country. One thing I’ve learned to expect in that part of the world is the insane level of showmanship. Those kids down there can flat out get it on!!

What is a nonnegotiable for you when sorting hog shows?
I can confidently say I won’t use one to win that isn’t an athlete.

Favorite hotel chain to stay in while at shows?
I’m not that picky- my wife on the other hand….. we will leave it at that. I wish every place I stayed could be as fancy as the Ameristay in Haskell, but that’s just not the case.

What are you looking forward to in 2024?
Lots of good times showing with my family and our crew. We are blessed with the best people to travel with and raise our kids around.
