We Caught up with Mr. Dallas “Juan Carlos” Martinez, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Barrow at the 2025 Houston Livestock Show. Learn more about Dallas below..

What was one challenge you had to overcome for this show?
I lost a couple barrows due to health issues. My Houston barrow had a huge knot right behind his elbow which ended up being an abscess, but it had to be worked on a couple of times.

What was the toughest assignment or class you had to catch up on?
Spanish…just kidding. Reading and Math

Favorite thing about this particular show?
Getting to see all of my friends and show families. The green shavings and just being around other stock show kids.

One thing you loved about your winner?
His personality. Streber was my buddy. He was always the first one I checked on every time. He was the first one I’d work. When we had been gone I didn’t care what time it was when I got home I was gonna check on him and give him a big rub behind his ears. He’d climb up on his pen when he saw me coming.

Favorite celebration restaurant?
801 Chophouse, but since they don’t have one of those in Houston the crawfish at Honore’s did the trick

Any particular family show traditions?
This year, my Uncle and I have listened to Come Jesus Come by CeCe Winans as we got to shows. In the end the banners won’t matter, but your relationship with Jesus Christ will. We also pray and just Thank God for giving me the opportunity to do what I love.
