Tell us a little about your champion:
My Champion Poland Barrow, Pedro, was bred by Andy Zeller and Jason Corya. Pedro is a Cobra back on Woodstock. He is also the most friendliest and laziest pig on our small farm.
Leading up to a show weekend, I will pre-fill bottles and other products among pre-making feeds. Our family will put clean shavings in the trailer and make sure the other pigs left behind are squared away prior to leaving for the weekend.
When I was selected Poland Barrow Champion at CPS along with Reserve Overall Team Purebred Barrow, I was in pure shock but then NJSS came. Poland Barrow Champion again, my heart skipped a beat. I was so grateful to get it one time but to get it twice was a dream come true!
Do you prefer summer or winter shows? Why?
If I had to choose between summer or winter shows, I would pick summer shows. I prefer summer shows because Ohio weather is unpredictable in the winter months, it’s cold and I enjoy showing in the OH-Pigs Circuit along with other National shows.
Who’s been your biggest influence?
My biggest influence is my family! Without the support, none of this would be possible for my sister, Emma, and I. I would like to thank my DAD and MOM for pushing me so hard to strive to be a better showman and work hard daily with all my pigs.
Do you and your family raise pigs?
Last year, Emma and I wanted to understand the cycle of life in show pigs so we bred our first sow. What an experience! Something that has become very intriguing to me, so who knows what the future holds.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the barn?
I don’t have just one favorite thing to do in the barn! I appreciate many of the daily activities in the barn, but I do enjoy watching how each pig grows and develops. Some days I feel excited about the growth while others it may be rough!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer?
I really enjoy outside of showing pigs in the summer is playing cornhole and fishing.
