Tell us a little about your champion:
I was excited to drive the Reserve Supreme NJSA Gilt and Champion York Gilt at the Team Purebred National Junior Show. Her name was Dusty, and she came from Lorenzen Farms.
I also, exhibited the 5th Overall NJSA Barrow/Reserve Hampshire Barrow. He was bred by Danner Livestock.
I spend a lot of time checking them throughout the day, making sure all the pigs are cool and comfortable. Leading up to a show, I work extra hard on making sure they drive how I want them to. Show days consist of our families regular routine and always starts off with some pump up music in the truck. The current favorite this year is “Fireball!”
“Herby” my hamp barrow was ready to roll that day! When we came back out in grand drive he was rocking. I was excited to take home the 5th overall honors! Even after a tornado, and showing without electricity, he knew when he was in the spotlight and he was so much fun to show!
Do you prefer summer or winter shows? Why?
Summer shows for sure! I like the weather, the fact school is out and sun shine. I see more of my friends at summer shows as well.
Who’s been your biggest influence?
I’m lucky to have lots of people who have had a positive influence on me during my show career. Nalaney Guyer is one of the biggest influencers and has been a great role model for me. She works hard, is a great showman, and always takes time to help others like myself.
Do you and your family raise pigs?
Yes. My brothers and I have kept back a few previous show gilts and are raising some of our own Yorkshire and crossbreds now
What’s your favorite thing to do in the barn?
I like to hang out in the barn, studying the pigs, brushing on them and playing with them. My brothers and I also like to play my dad in basketball in the barn!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the summer?
Go to pig shows! I’m lucky my family takes us to lots of shows, and all of them are special to me for different reasons. Some of my best friends and most favorite times are at pig shows!
