We Caught up with Ms. Audrey Redalen exhibitor of the Grand Champion NJSA Gilt at the 2024 Team Purebred. Learn more about Audrey below..

What was the most special part about your win?
It was the culmination of a lot of hard work paying off and my gilt finally deciding to act like a show pig! This was a super special win and goal of mine that I will NEVER forget.

What is your favorite thing about your animal?
Some days her attitude made her hard to love, but I loved everything else about her.

Does your animal have any quirks?
Yes, Jemma had A LOT of quirks! Honestly, she almost never made it to her first show. She was the hardest-headed, naughtiest, and the most pain the in the butt pig I’ve ever had. Some days it would take over 20 minutes just to get her out of her pen at home to go on a walk. At her first jackpot show she seriously thought about jumping out of the showring! You never knew what to expect when driving Jemma and had to be prepared for anything!

What is one thing you hope to accomplish by the end of your show career?
This win will be hard to top, but I will keep setting goals and chasing my dreams.

Who is your biggest role model?
There are so many people who have helped me get to where I am today, and for that, I am very thankful!  I have a lot of people that I look up to for different reasons!

Favorite hobbies outside of showing livestock?
Outside of showing livestock, I like to be working at the farm, hanging out with friends, and enjoying good music!

What is your pre-show routine?
My pre-show routine consists of getting myself ready to roll and then making sure that the pigs are feeling and looking their best.

What are some of your showbox essentials?
A few essentials are my favorite rice root brush, Champion’s Choice, paint, and my go-to whip.

Gilts or Barrows?
It seems I’ve had the most success with gilts, but barrows have my heart.

Cats or Dogs?
Dogs all the way!

Summer shows or winter shows?
Summer shows!

Favorite Breed?
Aside from crossbreds my favorite breed is either Berkshires or Hampshires!
