We caught up with Paislee Oglesby to talk about Krystal Kay and the persistence it took to get her to peak at the right time.
Tell us a little bit about your champion:
When I first got Krystal Kay, she had a navel lump that we eventually got fixed. She had never been anywhere until we took her out of the barn in January, where she was Top 5 Purebred. Since then, she has definitely been my favorite — and many others’ as well.
Who is somebody that helped you achieve this win?
I would definitely say my aunt Melissa has had a huge impact on this particular pig. She knew my goals and wanted me to achieve them more than ever. While my uncle helps with so many things, my aunt was there for me physically and emotionally through all of the ups and downs in livestock.
What was the most challenging homework you had to make up?
If this is referring to schoolwork, then definitely Spanish.
What was a challenge you had to overcome with your champion or at the show?
At San Antonio, she didn’t want to eat at all, so I fed her every thirty minutes different things. At one point, all she wanted was applesauce or tuna.
What’s your go-to snack in the snack tub?
Probably some sort of cracker and a coconut Red Bull.
