We caught up with Gentry Ward, exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market Barrow at the 2025 Kansas State Fair.

What’s your all-time favorite fair food?
A foot-long corn dog with ketchup.

What’s your biggest win or proudest moment so far?
Looking back, I can’t help but feel so thankful for the people, pigs, and moments that shaped this season. My biggest accomplishment actually happened this year — winning both the Grand Champion Market Barrow at the 2025 Kansas State Fair and the Kansas Junior Livestock Show, followed by finishing my season with the Champion D1 Crossbred Barrow at the American Royal.

How do you stay motivated during the tough days in the barn?
I remind myself that “God’s got us” and everything happens for a reason. I also like to blare loud music.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a first-year exhibitor?
Don’t worry about the little things. Work hard, stay consistent, and have fun.

What do you look forward to most about your state fair?
I look forward to the market show and connecting with friends who live all over the state.
