We Caught up with Ms. Jada Dent exhibitor of the Grand Champion Purebred Breeding Gilt at the 2024 NJSA Winter National. Learn more about Jada below…
What was one difficult challenge you faced to get this win?
I would say the most difficult challenge I faced would have been the insanely cold weather that just so happened to hit Perry the week of Winter National. I can certainly say this is the only time my water buckets have frozen at a show in Perry.
What is one thing you dislike the most about showing pigs?
Definitely the first day of school when I get back from a show.
One thing you enjoy the most:
I truly enjoy working and competing with my livestock, and the connections and friendships I have made along the way have made showing worth wild. I know that these relationships will last far beyond my time in the ring.
Something new you tried:
I got a new pair of Show boots, and Winter National was my first time wearing them.
Besides being named Grand Champion, what was another memorable moment for you?
I would definitely say being Blessed with the opportunity to have multiple animals in their respective drives and compete with some of the best competitors in the country.
Somebody you look up to:
I definitely look up to my brother Dylan. Not only did he play a crucial role in my success at Winter National, but on Friday he had to take a final exam for the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and then rush back to Perry just in time to watch me show in the Cross Gilt and Purebred Gilt Grand Drive.
Favorite show product:
Jimmy Shine has definitely become a show day essential.
What playlist do you have blaring in the barn?
I haven’t really been listening to a certain playlist, however one song that comes to mind is “ Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
