Name: Castin Rash
Hometown: Kewanee, IL
Future Plans: Be involved in agriculture and raise pigs.
How did you start showing pigs, and what individuals have been the most influential thus far in your show career? I started showing because my dad is in love with it and it made me like it too. He has been the most influential. He always tries to make me better. Sometimes he is hard on me, but in the end, it is worth it. He told me choose a good attitude everyday, work harder than you think you should, and never give up.
What were your feelings when exhibiting in the champion drive at the World Pork Expo?
I was excited and expected to not win because it was the World Pork Expo. My dad told me on the way in that I needed to give it my best, my A game and leave nothing behind. I really didn't know what that meant at the time, but knew it was a big deal. I told my dad to spray me on the face to get me pumped up. It was funny. When I got out there I just told myself it's me and blue and tried to not look at all the people. When I won, I wanted to cry, but didn't until I saw my mom and dad.
What advice would you give to other Jr. Exhibitors?
Work hard at home, don't quit and try your best. Don't get mad if you get beat, just try harder. Also, have fun when you are with your friends at the show.
